HISTORY

The Association of Bahamas Marinas first came into existence as the Marina Owners of The Bahamas in June, 2009 under the direction of The Bahamas Hotel Association and the Inter-American Development Bank with funding support through its Sustainable Tourism Entrepreneurial Marketing Management Project.

The stated goal of the association was “to represent the needs and interests of marina’s and marina related business by facilitating and promoting profitability through competitive and sustainable growth”.

The decision was taken to form an association so as to be better able to address challenges and pursue opportunities in a drive to position The Bahamas as one of the world’s leading marina destinations.

The formation of the association received the full support of The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and the Royal Bahamas Police Force, the Commissioner of which joined the Minister of Tourism in addressing its inaugural meeting. Since then, the association has assertively promoted boating to The Bahamas, represented the members concerns as a lobbyist to Government, represented the sector’s point of view in the media and promoted high standards of environmental management.

The decision was taken to rebrand the association in 2016 as a result of which the name Association of Bahamas Marinas and a new logo were adopted.

The ABM now has a membership of 31 marinas and 19 allied members. It is itself an allied member of The Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association and the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association.
